"Monsha'at": 1.6 Billion Riyals in Funding for E-commerce Projects in the Kingdom

The Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority, "Monsha'at," has released the report titled "Small and Medium Enterprises and Promising E-Commerce Prospects," as part of a series of specialized reports issued by the Authority. This report aims to highlight the e-commerce ecosystem in the Kingdom, as well as the government initiatives supporting the small and medium enterprises sector. The report, published in both Arabic and English, showcases key figures and statistics about e-commerce in the Kingdom, illustrating the significant development the sector has experienced in recent years. It notes that the value of funding for e-commerce projects in the Kingdom reached 1.6 billion Saudi riyals in 2023, and the number of expected users of e-commerce platforms in the Kingdom is projected to reach 34.5 million by 2025. Additionally, the growth rate of e-commerce platform users between 2019 and 2024 is expected to be 42%. The report highlights the impact of e-commerce on small and medium enterprises, as it opens doors to growth and expansion opportunities, including overcoming market entry barriers, reducing operational costs, and reaching a wide customer base. Moreover, the report addresses the main challenges encountered by small and medium enterprises in the field of e-commerce, such as competition with customers, limited resources, inventory management, business services, and other challenges that may affect their growth and expansion.  The report includes insights from experts in various fields, including an interview with the e-commerce consultant at the E-Commerce Council, Mohannad Al-Mulhim, who discussed the current state of the e-commerce sector in the Kingdom and the support mechanisms provided by the E-Commerce Council to assist small and medium enterprises in their growth and expansion. He also highlighted the key trends and innovations that will shape the future landscape of the e-commerce sector. Mazen Al-Dharrab, the founder and CEO of “Zid”, noted the role that the company plays in facilitating collaboration between e-commerce store owners and relevant stakeholders, as well as how e-commerce stores can be launched for entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the evolving e-commerce landscape in the Kingdom. The report also features success stories from entrepreneurs in the e-commerce sector, including Abdulaziz Al-Lughani, the chairman and CEO of "Floward," who discussed the company's launch in 2017 in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and its expansion to 9 countries and 40 cities worldwide.  In addition, the report hosted the founder and CEO of "Torod" to discuss the company's success story. He talked about its beginnings, highlighted the challenges and obstacles he encountered, and shared the future plans and aspirations for "Torod." The goal is to encourage entrepreneurs to engage in e-commerce and benefit from it, as well as to inform them about all the services provided by Monsha'at and the opportunities available for investors in the e-commerce sector.
